About me

Isn’t it funny, I am the person who knows me the best but when asked to describe myself I just freeze up. I guess I just don’t like the cliche ” Hi my name is Courtney and I’m an alcoholic  A Nail Technician. ”  I also doubt many folk who land on this page really want to read my life story.  Well, maybe… It has been pretty entertaining at times 😉

So, lets just get this over with.  About 7 years ago, my husband and I were travelling the world ( AKA hes a soldier and I follow him around ) and I was finding it really hard to find a job in Germany. Probably because I didn’t speak German.  If you’ve ever been a stay at home wife, you will know that it is incredibly boring.  There seem to be twice as many hours in the day when you have nothing to do.  So I purchased a little gel nails kit and started to mess around with my nails.

I’ve always been on the artistic side, and anyone who knows me well, will tell you that I accomplish EVERYTHING I put my mind to. I can ride horses, I can knit, I can sew, I can code websites, I am a very good bowler, I have hustled many games of billiards.  I can golf, figure skate, I can draw a portrait.  I have learned how to cut hair,  I speak 3 languages; albeit only one fluently,  I even built an entire garden deck at our last house all by myself, and much much more…. what I’m getting at is that I have never been unsuccessful in any of my ventures.  Some however are more successful than others, and nails happen to be one of those successful things.  I think its been my most successful venture to date.  The reason for this, I suspect is the passion.

I absolutely LOVE nails.  10 tiny canvases for me to express myself on.  And its not something just anyone can do.  Not well anyways.  Since that little gel nails kit, I have gone on to become fully qualified in acrylic, gel, gel polish, manicure/pedicure, and full body waxing.  I have put my heart and soul into becoming the best nail tech I can be for many years, and I still know I can be better.   Every day I learn something new, even now, all these years later.  The beginning of my nail journey wasn’t so long ago, however, so I’ve not forgotten what its like to be at the overwhelming bottom.  Its hard when you start any new trade.  But nails, is one of the trickiest.  I know more nail techs with anxiety issues than I own colors of polish and I can relate as to why.  Sooooo….. While on one of our most recent ” World Travelings” I found myself yet again in a position in which I had no opportunity to work.  This time however, I have internet! Sweet hallelujah!  Before we moved here, I didn’t spend a lot of time on Facebook, probably because I was too busy working.  But all of a sudden I found myself joining every and any nail related group to fill the nail void.  I started to notice that a lot, and I mean A LOT of nail techs need help with things that I am already quite good at.  So I started commenting on all the posts, helping folk out.  They are not always grateful, but most of the time they are and that gave me such a warm fuzzy feeling.  It was in September 2017 , someone asked me to make a video to show them a technique.  I made the video, uploaded it to YouTube and got hundreds of likes, comments and subscribers within just a few days.  Knowing that I had helped that many people in such a short amount of time was an incredible feeling.  As it stands now, I’ve got a few dozen videos on my YouTube channel and in just 6 months I have gained over 2k subscribers.  I wouldn’t have expected that in a million years !

There are some things though, that cant be put in to a video.  And some things are far too complex to write in a comment section on a Facebook post.  That is why I decided to buy this blog.  Yes, I actually love helping people so much that I pay money to be able to share my tips and tricks with you.  This is where I will post any and everything I see people struggling with that I already conquered.   My YouTube channel is my baby, but this website is a must for some things.  I don’t know much about blogging, but if you remember back to paragraph 3… There’s nothing, I cant do.  So I suspect my skills will grow pretty quickly.

Some other things you might like to know about me :

Im Canadian.

I’ve got the spawn of satan  a little boy (hes 9 right now)

I once shaved my head with a men’s razor.

I have a fear of cotton balls.

I cant be in control of the remote.  I’ll watch the same channel all day rather than change the channel.

I’ve lived in 7 different houses between 3 different countries in the past 9 years.

There’s a lot of stuff I could tell  you about me, but I don’t know who is actually going to read this and I would hate to offend anyone!  I am Canadian after all *sorry*

I already feel as though I may have overshared, so I’m just going to quietly go now…  Thanks for stopping by though.  And if you are a nail tech struggling with something, don’t do it in silence!  Shout out for help and I will be there for you 🙂

Lots of love

Courtney
